New York Fashion Week: Autumn Apparel Trend Watch

New York Fashion week is over but what exactly did we learn about Mens fashion for Spring/Summer 2015? Let’s analyze it. Usually we see styles repeat themselves from show to show and yes those 8 days of running from one end of Manhattan to the next can be daunting but it’s all well worth it in the end. Some of the familiar looks we saw as a key focus and were synonymous throughout this season’s presentations have been identified as the following five key trends:

  • Graphic Shirts (Tee’s and Casuals)
  • Elongated Shirting
  • Sweats
  • Sneakers
  • Tailored Suiting

One thing we know for sure is athletic, street wear is back in a big way. It’s a trend that’s beginning now and judging by the looks of the runway styles, it will definitely carry over into next year. It’s never easy to narrow down our favorites however, there are three brands in particular that did a stellar job of showing the best of menswear fashion.

First, Richard Chai: This collection was shown in Lincoln Center during the beginning of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week and included both mens and women’s looks. Playing very easily off one another, both genders showed strong street wear reference with a twist of grungy styling. Of course sneakers played a pivotal role in creating the perfect ensemble and mixed prints and colors tied it all together.

Next up is Carlos Campos. Showing a very cohesive collection of tailoring and sporty looks, the Spring/Summer collections proved to be another step in the right direction for this brand. It was a definitely a silhouette driven collection, cut sharply and extremely bold in concept. With a pop of color and graphic design on the shirts layered with jackets and some even with sweats, they created the perfect combination casual, yet dressed up looks. The perfect word for the collection is “polished”.

Finally, Grungy Gentleman rounds out the top three for us because they put major emphasis on tailored sportswear garments yet each look is incredible sensible and easy to wear. From the perfect menswear staples like blazers and pea coats paired back to jogger pants in varying fabrications to cleanly constructed knitwear matched with long sleeve shirts and tees. Then, to show that their brand could very easily be all things to the most stylish of men, they sent a burgundy monochromatic suiting ensemble down the runway that is sure to make anyone wearing it, the envy of everyone else in the room.

In essence, we were impressed with Menswear styles this season and look forward to spotting the translation of these looks as they begin to hit the streets.
