A very good dog named Bella rescued a child from a charging black bear in Torrington, Connecticut. The encounter, captured on a Ring camera, sees the husky mix barking and chasing away the animal intruder as it followed the six-year-old boy, Colton Tazzara, while he walked into the driveway. Before his father, Jeffrey, could respond, the black bear was already regretting his pursuit and fled from the house.
Husky mix bites bear “in the rear end” before it charges boy
During the Fourth of July, Colton was busy playing with a plastic blaster toy when he walked on the driveway toward his father in the garage, according to footage from the family’s home security system, per ABC News and Storyful. Meanwhile, Jeffrey had his hands full preparing to leave for a holiday party.
Bu then dashing from the paved white walkway toward the house, a black bear appeared and headed toward the child with incredible speed. The family dog saw the animal and bolted across the front lawn, barking loudly and intercepting the animal from reaching the boy.
The bear was forced to dash between a basketball hoop and a miniature ATV before it crashed into the side of a boat and fled into the forest.
Jeffrey recalled that something was wrong because Bella didn’t make her usual bark during the rescue. He said it was “a vicious bark, not like she barks and yips and howls and stuff.”
The father remembered how quickly the dog acted in scaring the bear away. “Bella finally caught up to the bear, like right in the middle of the driveway, and she bit it in the rear end,” Jeffrey recounted, “and the bear ended up crashing into my boat, and then I think [it] scurried under the boat and then through the back between the houses and into the woods.”
The father commented further that he planned on giving Bella a steak as a reward. And in a report from WFSB, she did receive a T-bone for her heroic efforts.
