Sometimes leaving your car door unlocked isn’t a good idea, as two men found out when they discovered a black bear waiting for them in the back seat. Video captured by Brittany Foreman on July 5 in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, shows several owners of a gray compact-crossover Nissan Rogue SV attempting to shoo the animal from their vehicle. Fortunately, both the men and the bear didn’t suffer any injuries, though the animal was still able to steal a tasty treat.
Two men in Tennessee chase bear out of their car
As posted on Instagram by ABC News, footage shows Brittany filming the incident safely from across the street. According to Storyful, which has a longer version of the video, her husband Colby and his friend learned that a bear had entered their vehicle and decided to scare the animal out without harming it.
Brittany admits that they had left the car doors unlocked when the bear broke into the SUV, though most would assume that it would be safe to leave their vehicle unlocked in a driveway in a quiet neighborhood.
One of the men opens the left rear door to give the bear a possible escape route, as they wonder what it wanted from their car. When the animal doesn’t seem like it wants to get out, they open and slam the right rear door several times to frighten the bear out the other side, shouting for it to “get on out of here.”
Not looking particularly scared by their antics, the bear still decides that it has already gotten what it wanted and carefully emerges from the back seat with a plastic bag full of sliced watermelon. (That’s one way to beat the summer heat.) As Brittany laughs at what the bear has stolen, it decides to wander over to the back of the lawn to savor its victory, plopping the bag of watermelon onto the ground and ignoring the two men staring at it from the driveway.
The woman says that she “didn’t realize how big that bear was until she stepped out of the car.” She also reveals that the watermelon was left in a cooler sitting in the back seat.
