Even though her parents are famous, she’s said, “I’m a total weirdo and have often felt like an outcast and a freak, and I love that. It makes things so much more exciting.”
Zoë Kravitz attended the Miami Country Day School in Miami, Florida. Later, she graduated from Rudolf Steiner School in New York. While still in high school, she worked on two films, “No Reservations” and “The Brave One.” About her experience in high school, she said, “I had a really difficult time. It’s weird; I feel like in the world today you’re not supposed to be like, ‘I’m beautiful,’ like that’s a conceited thing to say.”
Though she was enrolled in the State University of New York, she left after a year to pursue a career in entertainment.
Aside from acting, Zoë Kravitz was a member of the band Elevator Fight. It was formed in 2009 and she was the lead vocalist. In 2013, however, she was part of the rock band Lolawolf. The name came from her brother and sister’s names. As for music, she said, “I’m still not really planning on pursuing a music career. I like to make music because it’s fun to do and it makes me feel good, but I have no desire to be a huge pop singer or anything like that. I just like to make it.”
In 2013, she began a jewelry line with Swarovski. As a model, she was the face of Vera Wang’s Princess perfume.
In 2014, it was reported that Zoë Kravitz consumed clay to help her lose 20 pounds in order to convincingly play a bulimic character. “I ended up drinking clay because it cleans out your body and fills you up. I was eating like a Mason jar of pureed vegetables a day and running.” She admitted she had struggled with eating disorders in the past. “I think all young women do. There are a bunch of images that are thrown in our faces all the time about what we’re supposed to look like…it’s confusing.”
A bit of trivia: Her comfort food is “anything involving avocado.” Her best adrenaline rush is “any live performance, whether it’s in a play or [a band]…I get so nervous before I go onstage – beyond butterflies!” Her best lesson from her father was “march to your own beat.” And her best birthday was when she turned 11. “My dad decorated a room at the Standard hotel in a 6-s, Austin Powers style. There was human bowling…to this day, adults say it was one of the craziest parties they’ve ever been to.”
And as for fame, she said, “Fame has become this obsession for people, which kind of creeps me out.” Zoë Kravitz currently resides in Brooklyn, New York and she is single.
