Tao Okamoto was born on May 22, 1985 in Chiba, Japan. By the age of 14, she was already making a name for herself as a model, heightening her success a great deal by moving to Paris in 2006 in order to pursue international opportunities. Sure enough, with her unique looks and the fact that there were very few prominent East Asian models around at the time, Tao easily made a name for herself as a runway model representing top brands like Alexander Wang, Chanel, Fendi, Michael Kors, Miu Miu and Ralph Lauren.

Tao's modeling success increased significantly when she moved to New York in 2009. Upon arrival, she began donning a new bowl cut which took the fashion world by storm. Designer Phillip Lim even took the look a step further by featuring it as the hairstyle of his Fall/Winter 2009 show. Tao went on to appear in multiple magazines from Harper's Bazaar to Vogue, and was even named Vogue Japan's "Woman of the Year" in 2010 after being featured in their November 2009 edition exclusively.

As it always seems to go, no successful model such as Tao can go long without a film career. By 2013, she was thrown headlong into her first feature role playing the love interest to Hugh Jackman's title character in "The Wolverine." Due to her performance (especially since she had never taken acting lessons prior), she was soon recognized by many more famous projects, being cast on NBC's "Hannibal" series the very same year she took the role of Mercy Graves in the DC Comics adaptation "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."
