Her mom gave birth to her on the island of Guam, making Sara an American citizen. As a girl, Sara Malakul Lane attended a boarding school in England before going to school at the New International School of Thailand. She began acting in TV commercials when she was 12 years old. Her first big campaign was for Dairy Queen. She began catwalking in her teens. “I was pretty terrible at it – I tripped, giggled and always had the urge to wave at my mom in the audience.”

She added, “Sometimes I felt like I miss out for not going to college. But if I weigh it up, I have savings and don’t need help financially.”

Sara Malakul Lane moved to Los Angeles in 2009. “When I left Bangkok I was at the top and making the most money. It was a tough decision but I wanted to go to the best place in the world for acting.” She added, “I used to feel like I’m a small girl in a big world. But with time I feel like the world is becoming smaller and I’m getting bigger.”

She added, “You’d think that because I’m famous in Thailand everything is going to come easy….” That isn't necessarily the case.

She told that she was slightly introverted. “I like spending time by myself. I’m constantly thinking. I have a very vivid imagination. I make up scenarios in my head.” She is an avid reader and loves tragic loves stories. “I discover authors wherever I travel.” She also speaks fluent Thai. “My mother is Thai and I spent a lot of my formative years there.”

As for modeling, Sara Malakul Lane said it was “fun and easy. It has given me many opportunities to travel the world, and it is hardly strenuous.” As for acting, she said “it’s been a journey of self-discovery for me. It is the most fulfilling thing I know. It is also terrifying and painfully awkward…there is a very thin line between passion and technique and you have to find the perfect balance.”

She gets her inspiration from people watching. “Yes, I am the creepy girl that likes to stare.” She also tries to surround herself with "positive, hard-working people.”

Sara Malakul Lane now calls Los Angeles home. “I always fantasized about being settled in one place, having a real home, and I am planting my roots here.” She hopes in the future to have “a small cozy house, with a lemon tree and a rocking chair. I want to be settled.”
