Rosamund Mary Elizabeth Pike is an English actress who is probably best known for being a Bond Girl in “Die Another Day” and her role in “Jack Reacher.” She has been recently cast in the film “Gone Girl,” beating out such contenders as Natalie Portman and Charlize Theron, among others.
Rosamund Pike grew up an only child. Her mother was a classical violinist; her father was an opera singer. She spent much of her childhood traveling and can speak fluent English, German and French. She attended Oxford University’s Wadham College. She graduated Magnum Cum Laude with a degree in English literature.

Rosamund said she wasn’t a beautiful little girl growing up. “I think I was lucky in that I wasn’t one of those girls who are told that they are pretty the whole time. I never got that. Nor did I ever obsess about my looks as a teenager…looking back, I just think I was a really average sort of girl.”
She knew she wanted to be an actress, but when she applied to various drama schools, they all turned her down. Rather than make her reconsider her ambition, she thought “they’d made a mistake. There was just no doubt…that I could do this.”
After getting her part in “Die Another Day,” she found it strange that “the only thing anyone seemed to care about was my looks.” Afterwards, she fought off typecasting, avoiding the scripts that came her way to play the “icy British maiden.” “People are so keen to pigeonhole you in this industry that to bust out of that is always good.”
Rosamund Pike has also appeared in “An Education,” “Wrath of the Titans” and “Johnny English Reborn,” among others. As for acting, she said, “I think it’s okay to play to your strengths, and if I have a quality of Englishness that people like, I won’t hide that.”
Rosamund Pike is also a mother to a young child, Solo, from her relationship with boyfriend Robie Uniacke. She chose the name Solo because of the “the sense of freedom and independence and adventure it conjures up.” She said, “Motherhood is a great antidote to [acting and the movie industry], though. It takes you out of yourself.”
She likes “energy” in a man. “A strong force, a presence.” She was once engaged to director Joe Wright.
Aside from acting, she plays the piano and cello. She is not active on social media, and she splits her time between Los Angeles and London.
