Nicole Houston Reed aka Nikki Reed is a writer and actress probably best known for her roles in “Thirteen” and the “Twilight” film franchise.
Nikki Reed wrote on Twitter: “I write…I act…I take pictures. The most exciting thing? I got to marry the man of my dreams…”
She is a mix of Jewish, Cherokee and Italian ancestry. She grew up in Culver City, California.
Nikki described her home life as “complicated” and said she was shy and a bookworm growing up. Her parents divorced when she was two years old.
When she was 12, she became rebellious and emotionally volatile and she experimented with drugs and sex. By the age of 14, Nikki Reed was emancipated, moved out and began living on her own.
She burst onto the scene after co-writing the semi-autobiographical film “Thirteen,” as well as co-starring. She co-wrote the script within six days while she was on her school's winter break.

Her co-writer was director Catherine Hardwicke, who had dated her father. (Catherine later went on to direct the film "Twilight" and "Lords of Dogtown," both of which co-starred Nikki Reed.)
Nikki later said she regretted writing "Thirteen" because the film was “really hard on my family.” She most regrets saying that it was an accurate representation of her childhood.
Nikki has also appeared in “Lords of Dogtown,” “The O.C;” and “Twilight.” In 2009, Maxim ranked her #42 in its “Hot 100 Women” list.
Nikki is married to singer-songwriter and “American Idol” alum Paul McDonald. They met at the premiere of “Red Riding Hood.” Nikki said, “I walked over to Paul and knew I was in love within one second of saying hi. It was the craziest thing that has every happened to me in my life.”
She said, “I’ve fallen on my ass I don’t know how many times because I refused to listen to anyone.”
About the reaction to “Twilight,” Nikki said, “All of those things – fame, feeling loved by people that don’t know you – I don’t get excited by that. If anything, it makes me nervous and it gives me anxiety. I feel like I’m a part of something that isn’t real.”
She released her own jewelry collection called Mattlin Era.
Nikki Reed splits her time between Los Angeles and Nashville.
