Born in Honolulu, Hawaii to Alfonso Valiente and Rosemary, Nicole Prescovia Elikolani Valiente was raised in a Roman Catholic family.
She is a mix of Filipino, Hawaiian and Russian ancestry. Her mother was a professional hula dancer. Nicole Scherzinger is known as the lead vocalist of the group "The Pussycat Dolls."
Nicole's parents separated when she was six and Nicole moved to Louisville, Kentucky where she attended the Youth Performing Arts School. In college, Nicole Scherzinger majored in Acting and Musical theatre at Wright State University.
Nicole Scherzinger joined the rock band "Days of the New." They recorded an album and toured, but she was eager to become a pop artist. She credits Whitney Houston as her biggest influence.
In 2001, she auditioned for the show "Popstars." She later won as part of the group "Eden's Crush" and went on tour with "'N Sync" and Jessica Simpson. Nicole recalls, "I remember being in New York City and driving over the Brooklyn Bridge and hearing [their song] for the first time ever on the radio and freaking out." The group disbanded in 2001.
In 2003, Nicole Scherzinger joined the "Pussycat Dolls," a burlesque troop. Initially, "I didn't want to be in a group. I was just there to get in a room.give my demo and get a solo deal, that's all." But the record executives "saw something in me and said they couldn't let me go." The band's first single, "Don't Cha" was a hit and they subsequently went on tour and continued to write, sing and release albums.
In response to the sexy outfits the band wore, Nicole said, "Girl power is about loving yourself and having confidence and strength from within, so even if you're not wearing a sexy outfit, you feel sexy" (askmen.com).
In 2010, Nicole Scherzinger left the group. She joined the 10th season of "Dancing with the Stars," and ended up winning the competition with her partner Derek Hough. She also appeared as a guest judge on "The X Factor." She said, "the 'X Factor' is a phenomenon. When you're on the set, you feel the crazy energy. It's Simon's world and anything goes."
Nicole Scherzinger is awaiting the release of her first solo album "Killer Love." "All I've ever really wanted to do was sing. I didn't care about being famous. I wanted to do musical theatre and then make records because I saw how much albums connected with people" (nicolescherzingermusic.com).
In 2012, Nicole Scherzinger revealed her eight-year struggle with bulimia. During her time with the "Pussycat Dolls," "I just hated myself. I was in a group, but I never felt so alone in my life.. I never did drugs, but hurting myself was my addiction. The music is what saved me. That's the only thing I can trust."
