Born in Kalispell, Montana to Carla Ingrid, a homemaker and Larry Richard, an author and stock trader, Michelle Ingrid Williams found fame on the TV show "Dawson's Creek," but continued her ascension into the A-list, earning an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in "Brokeback Mountain."
BioMichelle is part Norwegian. Her family moved to San Diego when Michelle Williams was nine. She told People that after watching "The Sound of Music" as a kid "I thought that all acting required singing."
Michelle filed for emancipation from her parents when she was 15, in order to pursue an acting career. She also left school because of severe bullying and ended up being home-schooled by her mother and graduated early. Apparently, after making her film debut in 1994's "Lassie" Michelle Williams' classmates at Santa Fe Christian High School barked at her and asked if she played the role of the dog (people.com).
Upon Michelle's move to Los Angeles, she landed on "Dawson's Creek." She told USA Today about her character, "She's this stable, happy-go-lucky girl still wrestling with demons. She grew up quickly at a real fast pace. Of course, I can relate to it." Her co-star Joshua Jackson tried to get her to stop smoking. Michelle Williams said, "He's constantly flicking cigarettes out of my hand, stomping on them and hitting me. It drives me crazy."
When "Dawson's Creek" ended after six seasons, Michelle Williams said, "Everybody agrees that it's the right time for it to be over, so there's a lot of peace that comes along with that."
Other roles followed including "If These Walls Could Talk 2," "The United States of Leland," and "The Station Agent," among others. Of her role in "Halloween H20," Michelle Williams said, "I was worried about being a good screamer" (people.com). But it was her role in "Brokeback Mountain" that made her an A-list star. Michelle Williams has continued to choose roles, mainly in the indie film scene.
Michelle Williams dated Heath Ledger and have a child together, Matilda Ledger. In 2007, the couple amicably ended their three-year relationship. She told Elle, "I didn't know where to go. I couldn't imagine any place in the world that was gonna feel good to me."
Heath Ledger died from an accidental overdoes in January 2008.
Before his death, Michelle Williams told USA Today, "I have two great loves of my life " my family and my work. I can quickly and assure you this has been the best year of my life." And her best role to date? "Matilda's mom. I love being a young parent. It's me, the baby and the breast pump."
