Kirsten (pronounced “Keer-sten” not “Kur-sten”) described herself on Twitter in 2013 as “Actress/home owner/lover of cats.” Her nickname is Kiki and she is a mix of Swedish and German ancestry. She holds dual citizenship with the United States and Germany. Her parents separated when she was young. She said, “Whose parents haven’t? I was actually well-adjusted about it.”

Kirsten began her career when she was only three years old modeling and eventually appeared in around 100 commercials. Kirsten said, “I was a very extrovert kid. It felt normal to me to act. I always went to regular schools. I’ve never been catty or a prima donna so I never had problems.”

Kirsten appeared uncredited in Woody Allen’s “New York Stories.” Her first credited film appearance was in “The Bonfire of the Vanities.” However, it was her role in “Interview with the Vampire” that was her breakout performance, as well as her first screen kiss with Brad Pitt. “It was gross ‘cause his lips were so dry.”

Later Kirsten would turn down Mena Suvari’s role in “American Beauty” because of the film’s sexually suggestive scenes. Kirsten would say of her childhood and fame: “Well, it’s not a natural way to grow up, but it’s the way I grew up and I wouldn’t change it.”

Kirsten Dunst graduated from Notre Dame High School in Los Angeles. She told People about high school: “I was never considered cool. I was a cheerleader, but I didn’t like cheerleading. I did that to be cool. It all seems so silly now.”

On the set of ER, George Clooney taught her how to drive using his studio golf cart.

Kirsten Dunst has been romantically linked with Jake Gyllenhaal, whom she dated for two years. After they split up, they shared custody of their German Shepard mix Atticus. In 2008, she also went to rehab to seek help for depression. “I was struggling, and I had the opportunity to go somewhere and take care of myself.”

Kirsten is active with charities, including the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation and Stand Up to Cancer.

Kirsten Dunst splits her time between New York and Los Angles. She said, “You do live more anonymously in New York. People don’t care that you’re an actor.”
