Kate Garry Hudson was born on April 19, 1979 in Los Angeles, California to actress Goldie Hawn and musician/actor Bill Hudson. However, only eighteen months after her birth, her parents divorced and she and her older brother, Oliver, were raised by their mother and now long-time boyfriend, Kurt Russell, who Kate considers more of a dad than her real father. In fact, both Kate and Oliver refuse to speak to their real father, as he was never around for them. From a young age, it was clear that Kate was meant to be in the spotlight, as she would sing and dance every chance she got. After graduating form high school at Crossroads in Santa Monica, she was accepted to New York University, but opted out in order to pursue acting instead.

After briefly playing small guest roles in television shows such as "Party of Five" and "EZ Streets," Kate made her way into film with her debut film acting credit in "Desert Blue" in 1998. From there, she continued to land a few other parts in films such as "200 Cigarettes" and 2000's "Gossip." Then, in the same year, she was cast in the Cameron Crowe movie "Almost Famous" when the original actress for the role of Penny Lane, Sarah Polley, backed out. This role would arguably prove to be Kate's best to date, even though she has starred in dozens of films since.

Speaking of those dozens of films, it was three years and several roles later that Kate would star alongside Matthew McConaughey in the romantic comedy "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days," another famous film from the actress that really put her on the map, this time with women especially. So it comes as no surprise that she continued to ride the rom com train for several more years in films such as "Alex & Emma," "My Best Friend's Girl," and "Fool's Gold," which reunited her onscreen with McConaughey. Kate made her way back to television with a five-episode stint on the popular FOX musical series, "Glee," in 2012. She still continues to do most of her acting in films, however.
