Famke Janssen can speak Dutch, German, English and French. Her name Famke translates into “little girl” in Frisian.


Famke Janssen spent a year studying economics, which she called “the stupidest idea I ever had.” She moved to America in 1984 and became a model in New York City.


She took a break from modeling, studied acting and majored in writing and literature at Columbia University. Afterwards, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting fulltime.

She made her feature film debut in “Fathers & Sons,” and later appeared as a Bond villain in “GoldenEye.” Famke was offered the lead role in “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines,” but she turned it down. She has also appeared on “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” “Melrose Place” and “Ally McBeal,” among other projects.


Famke Janssen was married to Kip Williams from 1995-2000. They have since divorced. She said, “I don’t even like talking about dating. It’s like having a stamp on your forehead: ‘I’m available and I’m looking.’”


Famke is a vegetarian and her favorite horror movie is “The Shining.” Her favorite authors include The Bronte Sisters and Vladimir Nabokov. She actually prefers to play characters from novels as they have more depth. She added, “I’m a firm believer in taking risks in life, because you’ll never get anywhere unless you do, and the more risk involved, the greater the outcome – or the worse, but you never known so you’ve got to go for it.”


In 2007, Famke Janssen participated in a campaign for PETA, and in 2008, she became a Goodwill Ambassador of Integrity.


Famke made her directorial debut in 2011 with “Bringing Up Bobby.” Most recently, she is set to appear in “Hemlock Grove.”


Famke Janssen resides in New York City.
