USA Renews Mr. Robot Ahead of Series Premiere

USA Network is apparently very happy with Mr. Robot. So much so, that USA is giving Mr. Robot an early renewal for season 2 just hours ahead of its first season premiere.

The pilot episode of Mr. Robot was officially released online near the end of May, and it has been viewed over 2.6 million times across all platforms. Mr. Robot has also been well-received by TV critics, which has helped build buzz for the show.

In making the announcement, USA Network President Chris McCumber said “We knew from the moment we read Sam Esmail’s provocative script, and witnessed the brilliant performances of Rami Malek and Christian Slater, that Mr. Robot is a stand-out series that is unlike anything currently on television. The overwhelmingly positive fan reactions to the pilot and the broad sampling of it, reaffirms our confidence in the series, and we’re excited to see where this timely drama will take us for season two.”

The series stars Rami Malek as Elliot Rodgers, an online security consultant and a vigilante hacker by night. Christian Slater stars as the title character, Mr. Robot, an ancharist who attempts to recruit Rami into his hacker collective.

USA did not disclose the size of Mr. Robot’s second season order, but it will likely match the ten episode order for the first season. Although it is possible that USA will order additional episodes so that it can split the second season of Mr. Robot across 2016.

Mr. Robot Season 1 begins tonight on USA.
