Didier Drogba was carried off the pitch by his team mates after being subbed off in what will be his last ever appearance for the club, during their final game of their victorious Premier League season.
The Ivory Coast international was made captain for the day after announcing the match against Sunderland would be his final Chelsea game, and after being pulled to the bench in the 27th minute John Terry, Eden Hazard & co. lifted him onto their shoulders, carrying him back to the tunnel.
The Chelsea legend was met with a standing ovation from the club’s fans, along with its chairman Roman Abramovich. However, Jose Mourinho looked on sternly, which perhaps had something to do with Chelsea being down 0-1 at the time of the Ivorian’s substitution.
Despite Chelsea having already secured the Premier League title, they still managed to come back from the one goal deficit in order to snatch a 3-1 victory at Stamford Bridge, before lifting the trophy at the end of the match. Drogba was involved in the post-match celebrations, posing beneath the trophy held by captain John Terry.
