Stan Starts Production On Original Aussie Comedy Series

Australian streaming service Stan has started production on an original, improvised comedy series titled “No Activity”.

According to a synopsis, via Gizmodo, “No Activity” will follow two detectives on a stakeout and will focus on “what happens when nothing is happening”. It comes from production company Jungleboys, behind project like “A Moody Christmas” and “The Elegant Gentleman’s Guide to Knife Fighting”.

The series will star Patrick Brammall, Darren Gilshenan, Damon Herriman, Harriet Dyer, Genevieve Morris, Dan Wyllie, David Field and Sam Simmons. It sees the Australian streaming service – a joint venture between Nine and Fairfax Media – follow in the same vein as Netflix in creating original content specifically for their subscribers.

“[Stan] want to make a show which is aimed at less of a broad audience, they want an audience which is really passionate about it, and really love it,” Jungleboys managing director Jason Burrows told Fairfax. “They’re giving us a lot of freedom to make the show we’re passionate about making.”

“No Activity” will be written and directed by Trent O’Donnell, who is currently an executive producer and director for US series “New Girl”, starring Zooey Deschanel.

“We pitched them a police procedural show without any of the action bits,” O’Donnell said. “It’s essentially an improvised character-based comedy about the moments of nothing in between. It’s very performer based, and it’s a really great cast.”

Filming has commenced in Sydney and Los Angeles.
