Beasts Of No Nation Might Be A Little Difficult To See In Theaters

Netflix is gobbling up shows and films left and right lately, and this particular incident continues the trend.

The graphic war drama Beasts of No Nation, starring Idris Elba, was scooped up by the internet streaming giant and is slotted for a Fall 2015 release. The release though is exactly what has been a thorn in large theater chains’ sides, as Netflix plans to debut the film in theaters and on its own streaming service simultaneously. AMC, Cinemark, Regal and Carmike don’t really fancy this plan, as they feel it violates the traditional 90-day buffer between theatrical release and home video availability.

It’s pretty clear the large theater chains are feeling threatened right in their wallets, but not all hope is lost. Many independent cinemas are still planning on screening the film despite Netflix’s desire to make it available online the same day.

Beasts of No Nation follows the life of a child soldier recruited during civil war in West Africa. It’s sure to be a visceral film, and possibly an Oscar contender, given Idris Elba’s considerable talent.

Thanks to Cinema Blend for the update.
