Tom Ellis Is Lucifer on Fox

The Fallen One has a new face.

Earlier this month, Fox gave a pilot order to Lucifer, an adaptation of the DC Comics/Vertigo comic book series of the same name. According to Deadline, Tom Ellis has been signed to portray the title role of Lucifer, the former Lord of Hell.

This particular version of Lucifer originated within the pages of Neil Gaiman’s Sandman, as Lucifer abandoned his post in Hell. The Lucifer comic book series written by Mike Carey and artist Peter Gross followed Lucifer’s new life in Los Angeles as he attempted to find a new role for himself.

The potential Lucifer TV series has added a crime procedural element, according to the official description from Fox:.“Bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, [Lucifer] resigns his throne and abandons his kingdom for the gorgeous, shimmering insanity of Los Angeles, where he gets his kicks helping the LAPD punish criminals.”

Ellis most recently headlined the USA drama Rush, in addition to his previous roles on Once Upon a Time, EastEnders, The Catherine Tate Show and Doctor Who.

Californication creator Tom Kapinos is writing and executive producing the Lucifer pilot, with Underworld director Len Wiseman slated to helm the pilot as well. Lucifer will compete for a slot on Fox’s Fall 2015 TV schedule.
