Calista Flockhart Is Cat Grant on Supergirl TV Series

Calista Flockhart is coming back to TV.

Variety is reporting that Flockhart has been signed as a series regular in CBS’ upcoming Supergirl TV series, where she will portray Cat Grant. As created by Marv Wolfman and Jerry Ordway in 1987, Cat Grant was a reporter at The Daily Planet who initially had romantic feelings for Clark Kent aka Superman. However, Cat Grant was later used as a more adversarial figure in the Supergirl comic book series.

For the newest Supergirl adaptation, Cat Grant is being reimagined as “a self-made media magnate and founder of CatCo” who began “her career as a reporter and has built her company into a global powerhouse.” The title character of Supergirl, Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist) aka Kara Danvers works for Cat as her personal assistant.

Flockhart is best known for her iconic role as Ally McBeal in the ‘90s, and for her more recent TV series, Brothers & Sisters with Supergirl executive producer Greg Berlanti.

Mehcad Brooks is also starring in Supergirl as Jimmy Olsen, while Laura Benanti will play Kara’s Kryptonian mother, Alura Zor-El.

Supergirl has already been ordered to series by CBS and it will likely debut this fall.
