Liverpool FC Announces Australian Return

Liverpool have confirmed a return Down Under, announcing two Australian A-League pre-season fixtures scheduled for mid-July.

The Premier League giants will provide their huge Australian fan base with a chance to catch them in the flesh when they take on the Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium on July 17 before facing Adelaide United at the Adelaide Oval three days later.

“Liverpool FC has over 600,000 supporters in Australia and we look forward to meeting as many of them as possible while we are in the country,” club chief executive Ian Ayre said in a statement.

“Pre-season is an important time for the team as they prepare for the upcoming season and the matches against Brisbane Roar and Adelaide United are an exciting part of that preparation, giving our supporters a chance to see the team up close, no matter how far away from Anfield they live.”

The Reds made their way down to Australia in 2013, taking out Melbourne Victory 2-0 in front of 95,000 at a packed MCG. Although Liverpool won’t be visiting a stadium quite as big this time round, both Suncorp and Adelaide Oval hold more than 50,000 spectators and the venues can expect to pack both fixtures.

“We visited Australia for the first time two years ago and the support we received from our Australian fans was incredible,” Ayre added.

Unfortunately, fans of Steven Gerrard won’t get to see their hero in action- the 34-year-old is off to join the L.A Galaxy in the American MLS after the season, ruling him out of the club’s 2015-16 pre-season.
