Krysten Ritter May Be Marvel’s Jessica Jones

Earlier this month, reports emerged that Marvel had narrowed its search down to six actresses for the title character in “Jessica Jones,” the upcoming live action series on Netflix. Today, Marvel may have settled upon its choice for the role.

According to Deadline, the winner is Krysten Ritter, the former star of “Don’t Trust The B—-” on ABC. The report notes that the role came down to Ritter and actress Teresa Palmer. But more intriguingly, the story suggests that Mike Colter (“The Following”) has been cast as Luke Cage.

“Jessica Jones” is based on Alias, a comic book series created by Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Gaydos. As in the comics, Jessica Jones is a former superheroine who reinvents herself as a private detective to rebuild her life and help others in need. Luke Cage is said to be appearing in as many as seven episodes of “Jessica Jones” as her love interest before spining off into his own 13 episode series on Netflix.

“Daredevil” will be the first of four Marvel live action series on Netflix, with “Jessica Jones,” “Luke Cage” and “Iron Fist” slated to follow. While Marvel and Netflix have previously announced that “Daredevil” will premiere in 2015, it’s not clear when “Jessica Jones” will be released. Presumably, a 2015 debut is possible for that series as well.
