Shia LaBeouf Prepared for Fury, But Not in Ways You Might Think

Fury, which opened to critical acclaim and is praised as being one of the most realistic war films ever made, had its fair share of heavy hitting cast members. One of them, Shia LaBeouf, prepared for the film in some very interesting ways. Most of them required him changing as a man entirely, down to his soul. He really took director David Ayer’s need for “everything” quite seriously. Whether any of this was real, or if it was method acting (living your role), we may never know, but you should still check out the list of what LaBeouf did before meeting up with the cast and beginning production on Fury:

  • Joined the US National Guard a day after he was officially cast
  • Chose to follow Christ and was baptized
  • Became a chaplain’s assistant in the 41st Infantry
  • Spent a month living on a forward operating base

And here’s a couple things for added emphasis after meeting up with the cast at Fort Irwin:

  • Pulled a tooth out
  • Cut his face
  • Didn’t bathe for four months

While Shia may have his faults, and is guilty of a lot of things in life (not unlike the rest of us), it seems he’s quite dedicated to his craft and changing who he is in order to dive deeper into that which he loves doing. Oh, and if you haven’t seen Fury, do what you need to do in order to see it, because it’s definitely a war film one will not soon forget.
