HBO Finally Confirms Rachel McAdams & Taylor Kitsch For ‘True Detective’ Season 2

The casting of Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch in “True Detective” Season 2 has been an open secret for several weeks. Kirsch even admitted that he had the part in an interview. But HBO didn’t make the official announcement even after the second season began filming.

Today, HBO finally went ahead and acknowledged that McAdams and Kitsch will be co-leads of “True Detective” Season 2 alongside the previously announced Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn. Additionally, actress Kelly Reilly was confirmed as the fifth series regular for the new season.

For the second season of “True Detective,” Nic Pizzolatto has written a new story and created a new cast of characters. McAdams will play Ventura County Sheriff’s Detective Ani Bezzerides, a woman “whose uncompromising ethics put her at odds with others and the system she serves.” Kitsch is portraying California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer Paul Woodrugh, a man who is “running from a difficult past and the sudden glare of a scandal that never happened.”

McAdams and Kitsch’s characters will be joined by a detective played by Farrell as they attempt to unravel a conspiracy in the fallout of a murder. Vaughn portrays a career criminal, Frank Semyon, whose ambitions are also waylaid by the conspiracy. Reilly will play Frank’s wife, Jordan, “a former D-list actress who is a full partner in [Frank’s] enterprises and ambitions.”

“True Detective” Season 2 will also feature Michael Irby, Abigail Spencer , Leven Rambin, Riley Smith, Lolita Davidovich, James Frain, Adria Arjona, Christian Campbell, Michael Hyatt and Yara Martinez in co-starring roles.

HBO hasn’t revealed a release date for the second season of “True Detective,” but it seems likely to premiere in late 2015 or in early 2016.
