Penelope Cruz has been named the “Sexiest Woman Alive” by Esquire magazine.
The 40-year-old actress dethroned The Avengers‘ Scarlett Johansson for the title, posing for a photoshoot and holding an interview with the magazine in which she said she “doesn’t feel like the sexiest woman alive.”
The feature, which is forced to spend its entirety trying to come up with elaborate ways of describing how beautiful Cruz is, features this unintentionally hilarious paragraph: “Over the course of a long lunch, Cruz looks like a thousand different women. She flips her hair, or she shifts in her chair, or she creases her forehead or widens her eyes, and these alone are enough to transform her. It feels like watching close-up magic, an actress playing every possible part and well enough to be confounding.”
So what you’re trying to say here, Esquire, is that Penelope Cruz is a shapeshifter? Because I don’t think we should be trusting shapeshifters. I mean sure, Mystique is attractive (if a little too blue for my tastes) but she’s pretty deadly, too.

She is best known for her Academy Award-winning role in Vicky Cristina Barcelona and her performances in films such as Vanilla Sky, Blow and All the Pretty Horses.
