In Case You Didn’t Know, Flappy Bird Is Back

Now that the general public’s addiction to Flappy Bird has finally subsided, its safe for creator Dong Nguyen to come out of the woodwork and release the game’s sequel. Goodbye Flappy Bird, hello Flappy Birds Family.

You may recall that Mr. Nguyen’s main concern with the last game was the extent to which players became addicted. So much so that the app was netting Nguyen’s .Gears Studios nearly $50,000 USD daily from ad revenue.

To alleviate this, Flappy Birds Family is only being release on Amazon’s Appstore. Furthermore, the game only plays on the Fire TV, though luckily, it supports the device’s stock remote — no sold-separately gamepad required.

The game’s Appstore description is a friendly one, noting that the new edition adds features but retains its signature difficulty.

Flappy Birds now are on Amazon Fire TV with incredible new features: Person vs Person mode, more obstacles, more fun and still very hard. Enjoy playing the game at home (not breaking your TV) with your family and friends.

Not breaking your TV… does that mean the new edition is less infuriatingly frustrating? I always felt original Flappy‘s challenge was less one of actual difficulty and more one of quelling your own rage when you die. We’ll see if the “family” bent of the new edition changes that for the better.

There’s no word yet if Flappy Birds Family will reach Google Play or Apple’s App Store, but given Mr. Nguyen’s panic when the first game jeopardized his “simple life,” I’m not getting my hopes up.
