North Melbourne’s Majak Daw Charged With Rape

North Melbourne Kangaroos player Majak Daw has been charged with three counts of rape in relation to an alleged sexual assault in 2007.

The 23-year-old AFL player is expected to be served with a summons today. Fairfax Media reports that Daw had been arrested and interviewed in May over the offences allegedly committed in 2007. The charges are believed to be related to allegations of penile, oral and digital rape.

Victoria Police confirmed yesterday that they charged a 23-year-old Wyndham Vale man and the Kangaroos today confirmed that Daw had been charged. “The club respects the integrity of the legal process and asks the right to privacy of all involved be respected,” the club said in a statement.

“North Melbourne will support Majak and he will remain available for selection at VFL and AFL level. This is the subject of an ongoing legal proceeding and it is not appropriate for or North Melbourne to make any comment.”

Daw has reportedly denied the allegations. He joined the Kangaroos in 2010 as a rookie and became the AFL’s first Sudanese-born player. A filing hearing is scheduled for July 11.
