“True Blood” is back on HBO… and bound to inspire a few new drinking games before the series wraps up its run in ten weeks. But first, a recap of last night’s season premiere.

There are full spoilers ahead!

Vamp Attack

Picking up where we left off last season, the good citizens of Bon Temps and their platonic vampire companions come under attack by the dreaded Hep-V vampires… who seem very well organized. Did you notice that the Hep-V vamps fled in unison once a signal was given? That suggests that they have a leader…

But before the evil vamps cut and run, they kidnap Holly Cleary (Lauren Bowles), Arlene Fowler Bellefleur (Carrie Preston) and a few of the town’s more expendable residents. Also, Tara Thornton (Rutina Wesley) is killed offscreen in front of her horrified mother, Lettie Mae Daniels (Adina Porter).

Sad Sookie Is Sad

In the immediate aftermath of the attack, Sookie’s telepathic powers go into overdrive and she hears all of the angry thoughts that the townspeople have for her. Several of them even blame Sookie for getting them involved with vampires in the first place. Even Sookie’s boyfriend, Alcide Herveaux (Joe Manganiello) is pissed at her!

Sookie then shows off her excellent decision making skills by walking home alone in the Hep-V vamp infested woods and then discarding her cell phone when Alcide tries to call her.

“You’re a Dog!”

While returning from his attempt to track the rogue vamps, Mayor Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell) inadvertently outs himself as a shapeshifter in front of his political rival, Vincent. Sam then begs Vincent to keep his secret for the good of the town, which he seems to agree to. But Vincent then begins leading a group of vigilante vampire hunters without Sam’s knowledge or approval.

Meanwhile, Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) is a world away as she chases down a lead on the missing Eric Northman… who was last seen burning in the sunlight. Pam survives a game of Russian Roulette before finally getting the info that she wants.

The New Adventures of Bill & Andy

Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) teams up with his descendant, Sheriff Andy Bellefleur (Chris Bauer) to find the kidnapped people. But the only thing that they find are Vincent’s vigilantes and they want to kill Bill just for being a vampire. Andy pretends to go along with their plans and he tricks them into giving him a gun to kill Bill himself. Then Andy forces the vigilantes to let them go, but he tells Bill that he will never forgive him for what he has done to their family.

Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten) and Violet Mazurski (Karolina Wydra) have their own encounter with the vigilantes. When Violet scares them off, Jason feels like less of a man. But his frustration finally makes Jason demand that Violet have sex with him, to which she eagerly agrees.

Jessica Stands Watch

In the most boring subplot ever, Jessica Hamby (Deborah Ann Woll) watches over Adilyn Bellefleur (Bailey Noble), the last surviving fae daughter of Sheriff Andy. Basically, Jessica stands outside of Adilyn’s house for most of the episode until a vampire shows up. And then Jessica stands around again.

At the break of dawn, Adilyn demands that Jessica enter her home and take sanctuary from the sun. Jessica reluctantly complies and she manages to stop herself from attacking Adilyn while the other vampire bursts into flames.

Sookie Comes Out

At church the next day, Sookie tries to comfort Lettie Mae about Tara’s demise. However, Lettie Mae lashes out at Sookie and the rest of the congregation’s ugly thoughts overwhelm Sookie. Before leaving, Sookie stops herself and reveals to the crowd that she can hear their thoughts. Sookie tells them that she loves most of them even if they hate her and she says that no one knows vampires better than her as she offers to help them.
