Watch The First Trailer For Cinemax’s ‘The Knick’

“Strike Back” is taking the summer off at Cinemax due to an injury to Sullivan Stapleton during the filming of the final season. But Cinemax has another show ready to launch this summer and it may be Emmy bait next year.

Director Steven Soderbergh is helming and executive producing all ten episodes of “The Knick,” a new Cinemax drama series that stars Clive Owen as John W. Thackery; a doctor at New York’s Knickerbocker Hospital in 1900.

“The Knick” explores a time when modern medicine was in its infancy and the mortality rate was extremely high even with the relatively cutting edge techniques practiced by the doctors at the Knickerbocker Hospital.

This isn’t the kind of series that Cinemax is known for, but “The Knick” has the potential to be Cinemax’s first prestige series. It could be the type of show that garners attention from the Emmys when the 2015 award season begins.

Cinemax has released the first extended trailer for “The Knick,” which offers a taste of things to come. “The Knick” premieres on Friday, August 8, only on Cinemax.
