Jupiter Ascending Won’t Come Out This Summer

Bad news, folks: the latest sci-fi action thrillride from The Matrix and Speed Racer directors Wachowski Starship just got G.I. Joe: Retaliationed. The blockbuster hopeful Jupiter Ascending, starring Mila Kunis as the unknowing heir to an intergalactic empire and Channing Tatum as Legolas on steroids, was supposed to come out in just six weeks, on July 18, but it has now been pushed back nearly seven months to February 6, 2015 (via Coming Soon).

February is not, historically speaking, a month that is famous for the release of great movies. (We’ll grant you The LEGO Movie. And The Silence of the Lambs. But that’s it, okay?) But this doesn’t mean that Jupiter Ascending is going to suck, or even that the production is in trouble. That may just be the earliest time that Warner Bros. can release the film without heavy competition at the box office. Then again it might just suck, and the production may even be in trouble. We expect rumors to fly very quickly about what the hell went wrong, but we’ll wait until we get something resembling an official story before we pass judgment.

And we weren’t kidding about the G.I. Joe: Retaliation thing. The last time a movie this prominent was pushed back this far was in 2012, when the G.I. Joe sequel (also, funnily enough, co-starring Tatum) was delayed until March 28, 2013. That movie wound up getting decent reviews and earning over $375 million worldwide. Not too shabby. So let’s not jump to conclusions just yet.

Oh… who are we kidding? This is the internet. You might as well jump to conclusions in the comments.
