Inside Universal Orlando’s Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts

CraveOnline: We’ve been told that we’ll actually see the goblins at work in Gringotts. Can you elaborate on that?

Eric Hunt: I’m really excited to talk about the goblins because they’ve been my step-children, if you will. For about two and a half years, I spent many months up in the state of Vermont from which they were constructed working with the animation venders up there. The goblins are in all their glory. They are all unique in how they’re animated. They are grotesque yet beautiful characters and I’m really proud to display those… even down to their eyeballs with the most scrutiny in the art direction.Black eyes aren’t necessarily black eyes, if you will.

Their wardrobe, their hair and the texture of their skin was made with the most scrutiny and the approval of myself, Alan Gilmore (the supervising art director from the feature films), with Stuart Craig and even with J.K. Rowling. We’ve done a great job in what we felt that their likeness should be and their looks are influenced more from the last film rather than the first film.

Really, they were more grotesque in the first film and they have a little bit more liveliness to them in the final film. We carried on that same vision. We’re excited to say that our bank manager here is the same as in the feature film. We faithfully recreated him. The same [actor] from the feature film provides the voice and his wardrobe is just like it was [in the movie].
