Report: Prometheus 2 Gets 2016 Release Date; Green Lantern Scribe On Board

You’ve probably already got an opinion about this story just off the headline alone.  That’s because it’s safe to say that Prometheus was one of the most divisive monster franchise films to be released over the past several years.

Either you were a big fan of director Ridley Scott’s trippy proto-Alien prequel — or you really weren’t.  There wasn’t a lot of middle ground once reactions to the film set in.

And now, expect a new round of loud cheers and disgusted guttural screams at word that a sequel to Prometheus appears set for a 2016 release.

As first reported by TheWrap and amplified by Crave film site SuperHeroHype, Scott has also turned to Green Lantern screenwriter Michael Green to handle rewrite duties on the film, set for a March 4, 2016 release.

Green has also been working with Scott on the script for the much-anticipated Blade Runner sequel — which, of course, opens the discussion about whether there was any flash of redeeming quality in the Green Lantern script that should make us all feel better about entrusting Green with the futures of two of film’s most respected sci-fi franchises.

Either way, both Scott and 20th Century Fox seem fine with Green taking a whack at the original Prometheus 2 script by Jack Paglen (Transcendence), which reportedly includes multiple versions of Michael Fassbender as David.

Fox announced last week that a Ridley Scott film would be released March 4, 2016, but so far, no confirmation on TheWrap’s report.
