Sochi Olympics 2014: Bobsled Team Recovers From Horrendous Crash to Compete

Apparently, it looked worse than it was.

According to Crave’s NESN, the two-woman Brazilian bobsled team of Sally Mayara Da Silva and Fabiana Santos were heading into a corner during a practice run Sunday at the Winter Olympics in Sochi when Santos, piloting the bobsled, lost control and flew off the bank. The sled flipped on its side and careened into the wall, seemingly crushing the heads of the Olympic athletes inside.

Santos and Da Silva were unhurt in the crash, though the bobsled, which they needed when competition began Tuesday, suffered some pretty extensive damage. After the first two runs, out of four, the Brazilians are in 18th out of 19 teams and 5.13 seconds behind the American team of Beatrise Williams and Elana Meyers.
