Former ‘Doctor Who’ Star Karen Gillan Takes a ‘Selfie’ At ABC

Last year, Karen Gillan left “Doctor Who” after spending two and a half seasons portraying the Doctor’s companion, Amy Pond. While Gillan has two feature films coming this year, she may be back on TV this fall.

Gillan has been cast as the lead character in ABC’s comedy pilot, “Selfie.” Created by Emily Kapnek (“Suburgatory”), “Selfie” follows Eliza Dooley (Gillan), a social media obsessed young woman who inadvertently becomes the star of a wildly popular viral video after a humiliating public break up. If “Selfie” goes to series, it will revolve around Eliza’s attempts to rehabilitate her image with the help of a marketing expert.

Prior to her stint on “Doctor Who,” Gillan was a cast member on the sketch comedy series, “The Kevin Bishop Show.” Gillan revisited her comedy roots in the third season of Adult Swim’s “NTSF:SD:SUV::.” Gillan will star in the horror film, Oculus in April before her villainous turn as Nebula in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy later this year.
