Netflix Renews ‘House of Cards’ For Third Season

The first season of Netflix’s “House of Cards” followed Congressman Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) as he clawed his way into the Vice Presidency of the United States. The entire second season of “House of Cards” will drop later this month, but Underwood’s ascension won’t stop there.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix has ordered a third season of “House of Cards.” Back in 2011, Netflix picked up “House of Cards” for two seasons of 13 episodes each in a deal that was rumored to be worth around $100 million. That deal was largely seen as the beginning of Netflix’s major push into original programming. “House of Cards” has also been one of Netflix’s critical hits, with Emmy nominations for outstanding drama series and a lead actor nod for Spacey.

Based upon the novel by Michael Dobbs and the BBC miniseries of the same name, “House of Cards” was developed for the U.S. by Beau Willimon, with Spacey and David Fincher attached as executive producers. In addition to Spacey, the cast includes Robin Wright, Kate Mara, Michael Kelly, Michael Gill, Kristen Connolly and Constance Zimmer.

All 13 episodes of “House of Cards” Season 2 will premiere on Netflix on February 14. A premiere date for “House of Cards” 3 has not been announced.
