Deathlok Is Coming To Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’

There are some spoilers ahead for Marvel’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” so skip this report if you don’t want to know exactly who is portraying the latest Marvel character on the show.

When J. August Richards was cast in the “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” pilot, the early speculation was that Richards would play Luke Cage or Rage. Instead, Richards played Mike Peterson, a supersoldier who briefly joined S.H.I.E.L.D. before betraying Coulson (Clark Gregg) to save his son. The last time that Mike appeared on the show, he had lost a leg and suffered severe burns from an explosion. Mike had also been implanted with an artificial eye to control him.

During a visit to the set of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” IGN confirmed that Mike Peterson is being transformed into Deathlok on the show. Originally created for Marvel comics back in 1974 by Rich Buckler and Doug >Moench, Deathlok was man who was reanimated as a cyborg soldier. There have been at least three different Dealhloks in Marvel’s comic book universe, but Mike Peterson’s origin seems to resemble the story of Michael Collins from the Deathlok comic in the ‘90s.

Richards’ “Deathlok” will make his debut in next week’s episode of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” which will also mark the first appearance of  Bill Paxton’s S.H.I.E.L.D. agent John Garrett.

IGN also related that Jaimie Alexander’s guest appearance on “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” will revolve around Lady Sif trying to recapture an Asgardian sorceress known as Lorelei (Elena Satine). In Marvel’s Thor comics, Lorelei is the sister of Thor’s femme fatale, the Enchantress.
