Drew Goddard Named ‘Daredevil’ Showrunner

Last month, word circulated that writer and director Drew Goddard was in talks with Marvel Studios to take on “Daredevil,” the first of four original series coming to Netflix. Now that the negotiations are over, Marvel has confirmed the reports.

According to Marvel.com, Goddard will write and direct the first episode of “Daredevil” in addition serving as the showrunner for the 13 episode series. Goddard also co-wrote and directed The Cabin In The Woods and contributed to the World War Z script. However, Goddard also has extensive TV experience on several genre favorites including “Buffy The Vampire Slayer,” “Alias,” “Angel” and “Lost.”

Marvel has yet to confirm the report that Melissa Rosenberg will oversee the “Jessica Jones” series slated to follow “Daredevil” in 2015. Rosenberg was previously attached to the ABC adaptation of “AKA Jessica Jones;” which will be retooled for Netflix.

The Marvel Netflix deal also includes original series for “Luke Cage” and “Iron Fist” before bringing all four heroes together for an eight episode miniseries called “The Defenders.”

With Goddard officially in place on “Daredevil,” casting should begin early next year.
