Cop Dramas Reign On CTV, Production Begins On Motive

Canadian cop dramas are going to rule the CTV airways, as their new series “Played” debuts next month and production begins on season 2 of their hit show “Motive.”

“Played” follows the Covert Investigations Unit (C.I.U.), which is a Toronto-based undercover police unit formed to infiltrate criminal worlds. In nerve-wracking confidence games or “plays,” these smooth-talking cops flirt with killers, befriend gang members, and arrange gun shipments, all to collect evidence, coax confessions, and make arrests. It stars Greg Nelson (“Saving Hope,” “Rookie Blue”), and, according to a press release, the program is launching as part of CTV’s biggest promotional investment of any other network priority this fall. It begins October 3rd at 10pm.

Meanwhile, production has started on season 2 of the tried-and-true network fave “Motive.” Starring Kristin Lehman (“The Killing”) as Detective Angie Flynn, Brendan Penny (“The True Heroines”), and Lauren Holly (“NCIS”), the series will be filming in and around Vancouver through January 2014, leading up to its mid-season debut on CTV.
