UFC 163: Anthony Pettis Out Against Jose Aldo

Another UFC main event has suffered a serious Injury.

Anthony “Showtime” Pettis, who was supposed to face Jose Also for the UFC featherweight title at UFC 163, announced on Twitter Friday that he has suffered a knee injury.

“Injuries are part of the sport, small tear in my meniscus. I was so ready for this fight, this won’t stop me! Be back soon,” Pettis announced on his Twitter account Friday afternoon.

With Pettis out, UFC President Dana White announced via his Twitter account that Aldo will face a new challenger for his featherweight strap.

“Pettis hurt his knee, Korean Zombie will now face Jose Aldo for the title on the Aug card in Rio Brazil,” White posted on twitter.

“The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung, the No. 4 featherweight in the UFC, was originally slated to face Ricardo Lamas, the company’s No. 2-ranked featherweight, at UFC 163. Now, Jung gets Aldo just less than a month after his original date with Lamas.

Jung has won his last three fights with three finishes. He submitted Dustin Poirier last May. In 2011, Jung knocked out Mark Hominick in December and submitted Leonard Garcia in March of that year.

The Pettis injury is only the latest one to shake up a UFC card. Saturday’s UFC 161 was supposed to feature Mauricio “Shogun” Rua vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in the main event. However, Nogueira was forced out of the fight due to a herniated disc according to Sherdog.com’s Tristen Critchfield.
