E3 2013: PlayStation 4: What Do You Get For Your Money?

So now that E3’s main press conferences are out of the way, the majority of the attention is on Sony, who stole the show with their crowd-pleasing PlayStation 4 showing.

Priced a whole $100 cheaper than the Xbox One, Sony also said that they would not put in place any of the ludicrous restrictions that Microsoft are doing with their new console, and in confirming this they garnered themselves many converts to their cause.

But what exactly will you be getting for your $399? Here’s a run-down of what’s included in the box

  • 500GB hard drive. Although this is the same size of that of the Xbox One’s, the PS4’s hard drive will also be upgradeable, meaning that you won’t need to have several external hard drives sticking out of it if you use up all of the available storage space.
  • Dualshock 4 controller. The PS4 controller features concave analog sticks, which should make for a much smoother transition for those who have grown accustomed to the Xbox 360 controller. Additional controllers will reportedly cost $59.
  • A headset. Sony have learnt from the mistake they made with the PlayStation 3, including a mono headset with the console.

The PlayStation Eye camera will NOT be bundled with the system, instead retailing at a reported $59. There is no word yet on how integral the camera will be to the system.
