Gabriel Luna talks about Bella Ramsey stepping into a leadership role on the set of The Last of Us Season 3 following Pedro Pascal’s reduced presence, speaking to Variety.
Luna praised Ramsey’s on-set presence and acting ability in glowing terms. “I go where Bella walks. I love them so much. They’re one of the world’s greatest actors,” Luna said. The actor’s comments signal Ramsey’s growing influence on the production as the series enters its third season. Luna also described the dynamic shift on set, calling Ramsey “the general” of the current production.
The actor teased that Season 3 will explore multiple viewpoints in ways familiar to fans of the source material. “This season has been very interesting in the way that a lot of different perspectives shift,” Luna said. “I think folks that have played the game are aware of that aspect.”
The third season adapts the second half of The Last of Us Part II, which shifts focus to Abby’s storyline. Craig Mazin remains as sole showrunner after Neil Druckmann stepped away in July 2025 to focus on work at Naughty Dog.
Luna also confirmed that production is actively underway. “I just can’t wait for people to see it. We’re shooting it right now,” he said. The crew began principal photography in British Columbia in March 2026 and plans to wrap in November. Earlier, HBO renewed the series for a third season in April 2025, ahead of the second season’s premiere. Meanwhile, Kaitlyn Dever leads the season as Abby alongside returning cast members Isabela Merced, Young Mazino, and Jeffrey Wright.
HBO expects the third season to air in 2027. Notably, Luna’s remarks highlight the show’s evolving creative direction as it adapts the game’s most polarizing narrative choices for television.
