Elon Musk’s former partner Ashley St. Clair has explained why she refused an alleged $40 million non-disclosure agreement. The revelation comes after she made headlines last year when she revealed that she had secretly given birth to Musk’s 13th child.
Ashley St. Clair appears in Alex Gibney’s Musk after refusing the alleged NDA
St. Clair’s decision to turn down the alleged offer allowed her to speak freely on camera for Musk, a new documentary from filmmaker Alex Gibney. The film follows the tech mogul’s extraordinary rise and explores the tensions surrounding his growing power.
Speaking at the Musk press conference during the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, St. Clair opened up about her decision. The comments came ahead of the documentary’s September 8 premiere. “When you are offered something like that, it creates a debate about what your speech means and how valuable that is,” she said. “Why do they want to offer me this amount of money to not speak?” she added, as reported by Variety. She said appearing in the documentary was a way to “set the example for my kids.” She wanted to show them that speaking the truth is more important than financial comfort.
St. Clair said she joined Republican politics at 18 after meeting Charlie Kirk. She recalled an “air of ignorance” surrounding her involvement at the time. Now 28, she acknowledged that this ignorance did not excuse any role she may have played. She said she hopes her decision to speak out and fight back will “at least help a little bit.”
The 232-minute documentary is scheduled for a U.S. theatrical release on October 16. Barbera said the documentary’s runtime reflects the depth and complexity of Musk’s story. The 76-year-old said, as per The Hollywood Reporter, “I invite you to look at the duration of the movie — four hours.” Adding, “[Gibney] traces the whole career — the contradictions, and the conditioning power that is centralized in the hands of a single man. Consider a genius of capitalist entrepreneurship, but also a dangerous technocrat, with no moral scruples.”
