Dwyane Wade’s Son Zaire Faces a New Legal Crisis After Felony Charge

Zaire Wade’s legal troubles escalated after prosecutors formally filed a felony charge stemming from his June domestic violence arrest. The latest development placed the son of NBA legend Dwyane Wade back in the spotlight just weeks after police responded to an incident at a California home.

The 24-year-old was arrested on June 21 after officers were called to a residence in Burbank following reports of a woman screaming. He later posted bond and was released, but the case continued moving through the legal system.

Zaire Wade was formally charged with a felony weeks after his domestic violence arrest

According to PEOPLE, prosecutors charged Zaire with felony injuring a cohabitant, fiancé, boyfriend, girlfriend, or child’s parent. A felony criminal complaint filed by Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman alleged that Zaire “willfully inflicted corporal injury resulting in a traumatic condition” on the alleged victim, whose identity has not been publicly disclosed.

The complaint also alleged that Zaire and the woman were in a romantic relationship. His arraignment was scheduled for July 16 in Pasadena, California.

The new filing followed the June arrest, when police responded to a call around 5:30 a.m. reporting a woman screaming. People, citing previous reporting from NBC Los Angeles and police records, reported that officers found a woman with lacerations on her face and body when they arrived at the home.

Zaire was arrested and booked in Los Angeles, where his bail was set at $50,000. He bonded out later that same day, and authorities obtained an emergency protective order for the alleged victim.

A Burbank Police spokesperson previously told People that Zaire had initially been arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, criminal threats, and false imprisonment.

Neither Zaire nor his family had publicly commented on the felony charge at the time of publication. The case marked an unexpected chapter for the former basketball player, who most recently suited up for the Cape Town Tigers in the Basketball Africa League. His father, Dwyane Wade, enjoyed a Hall of Fame NBA career and remains a minority owner of the Utah Jazz.

Dwyane shares Zaire and daughter Zaya with ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches. He is also father to son Xavier with Aja Metoyer and daughter Kaavia with wife Gabrielle Union. In addition, the former NBA star is the legal guardian of his nephew, Dahveon Morris.
