Donald Trump Says Stephen Colbert ‘Was Like a Dead Person’

Right after Stephen Colbert finally wrapped up his streak on The Late Show on CBS, President Donald Trump, who is believed to be one of the reasons behind the cancellation, shared a bitter message for the late-night host.

Trump took to his Truth Social late last night and shared a message for the host, shortly after hinting that he would have a message waiting for Colbert after his show concluded.

President Donald Trump, who hinted on Wednesday that he had a message for Stephen Colbert, delivered on his promise late last night as Colbert wrapped up his long-running show, The Late Show.

The 79-year-old President shared a bitter message for the late-night host on Truth Social. “Colbert is finally finished at CBS,” the President wrote at 2 AM, “Amazing that he lasted so long! No talent, no ratings, no life. He was like a dead person. You could take any person off of the street, and they would be better than this total jerk. Thank goodness he’s finally gone!”

Colbert’s 11-year-long run came to an end on Thursday, May 21, 2026. The finale of the show was attended by Paul McCartney, along with a set of Hollywood A-listers like Paul Rudd, Bryan Cranston, and Ryan Reynolds. The show concluded with McCartney performing Hello Goodbye.

CBS announced the cancellation of The Late Show in July last year, three days after Colbert slammed CBS’s parent company, Paramount, over its $16 million settlement with Trump.

Since then, Trump repeatedly insulted Colbert on social media but distanced himself from the firing of the talk show host.

“Everybody is saying that I was solely responsible for the firing of Stephen Colbert from CBS, Late Night,” Trump said on a Truth Social post last year, “That is not true! The reason he was fired was a pure lack of TALENT, and the fact that this deficiency was costing CBS $50 Million Dollars a year in losses — And it was only going to get WORSE!”

The cancellation saw a huge wave of backlash.
