President Obama on Prince: ‘Nobody’s spirit was stronger, bolder, or more creative’

Prince has died unexpectedly at 57 years old. The seven-time Grammy Award winner was found dead Thursday morning at his Paisley Park recording studio complex outside his hometown of Minneapolis. His sudden death came as a jarring shock to his millions of fans, among them President Obama.

“Today, the world lost a creative icon,” Obama wrote in his statement on Prince’s passing. “As one of the most gifted and prolific musicians of our time, Prince did it all….’A strong spirit transcends rules,’ Prince once said — and nobody’s spirit was stronger, bolder, or more creative.”

President Obama and the first lady invited Prince to the White House last June to perform a private concert alongside Stevie Wonder for 500 VIP guests.
