John Oliver Creates The Cadbury Creme Egg Conspiracy

Happy post-Easter, America! As people around the country emerge from their collective chocolate sugar comas, only one man dares to face the ultimate Easter conspiracy! Just because Last Week Tonight with John Oliver was off last night, doesn’t mean that John Oliver is lying down on the job!

In a new web exclusive video, Oliver mocked the prevalent YouTube conspiracy videos by concocting an even wilder theory about Cadbury’s Creme Eggs, most of which are currently on sale at a discount anywhere that sells chocolate or candy. While Oliver apparently doesn’t like the taste of the candy, he definitely appears to be having a good time spouting off nonsense about the Creme Eggs and their connections to the Illuminati, the Freemasons, and Bono?!

As Oliver describes them, YouTube conspiracy videos are “science fiction for people who don’t understand that they’re watching science fiction.” Oliver takes the time to explain how conspiracy videos work before jumping into his own.

Of course, if Oliver really wanted to channel his inner Glenn Beck, he should have pretended to cry. But it’s an uncanny imitation of Beck’s conspiracy theory videos, including the outlandish attempts to link numerology and random details into a narrative designed to frighten the very gullible into believing that the theories have even a hint of truth in them. Most conspiracy videos either feature convincing liars or people who really believe the crazy s*** that comes out of their mouths.

Last Week Tonight will return to HBO this Sunday, April 3.
