Fox’s Lethal Weapon Reboot Casts Jordana Brewster as Female Lead

Fox and Warner Bros. TV havc yet to find the new Martin Riggs to step into Mel Gibson’s role for the new Lethal Weapon series, but they have cast the female lead.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Fast and Furious star Jordana Brewster has been signed to the Lethal Weapon pilot in the role of Dr. Maureen “Mo” Cahill, a therapist for the police and Riggs in addition to a L.A.P.D. hostage negotiator. The character is a new creation for the series.

Outside of appearing in five of the first seven Fast and Furious films, Brewster is best known for her roles in Dallas, The Faculty, Chuck, and her recent stints on American Crime Story and Secrets & Lies.

Damon Wayans, Sr. was previously cast as Detective Roger Murtaugh, the cop with a heart condition who was played by Danny Glover in the Lethal Weapon feature film franchise. The reboot series reimagines Riggs as “a former Navy SEAL-turned-police officer who moves from Texas to Los Angeles after the tragic loss of his wife and child. Attempting to begin a new life, Riggs winds up partnered with Roger Murtaugh.”

Whether Wayans and the yet-to-be-cast lead actor can recreate the classic Gibson and Glover chemistry remains to be seen, but the Lethal Weapon TV series will maintain the initial conflict between the two as Riggs’ indifference to his own life clashes with Murtaugh’s desire to survive until retirement.
