Watch Beck Front Nirvana to Cover David Bowie’s ‘The Man Who Sold the World’

Who says the Grammys is just a back-patting orgy of glad-handers and industry vampires? Ok, that may have been me. But great things can happen when the top players on the music scene gather in the same area, as evidenced last night when Beck teamed up with the surviving members of Nirvana to pay tribute to David Bowie at a pre-Grammy party.

The makeshift band found Beck taking over the duties of late hero Kurt Cobain on vocals, with a backing band of guitarist Pat Smear, bass player Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl on drums. Together they covered ‘The Man Who Sold The World,” a song rediscovered by a new generation when the band played it at their 1993 MTV Unplugged gig.

LL Cool J will host the 2016 Grammy Awards from the Staples Center in Los Angeles tonight (February 15). Due to a lack of public interest in her own recorded material, 2nd-string icon Lady Gaga will perform a tribute to David Bowie on the night.
