Reading and Leeds Festival Hit with Complaints After Disappointing Line-up Announcement

Reading and Leeds Festival’s social media pages are currently being bombarded with complaints after organisers announced a selection of new acts, including two new headliners, with many branding the line-up disappointing.

With Red Hot Chili Peppers already announced as headliners and The 1975 and The Courteneers somehow finding themselves around the top of the bill, too, now organisers have revealed that Foals and Disclosure will be co-headliners, a decision that has not gone down well with those looking to attend the event.

Posting the announcement on Twitter, the newly announced list of acts was branded “poor,” “disappointing” and “dog shite” by the festival’s followers.

While Foals have proven that they’re more than capable of handling a headline slot after their previous performance at Bestival, they’re perhaps not best suited to Reading and Leeds, an event which was headlined last year by the strange trifecta of Metallica, The Libertines and Mumford & Sons. With the festival also announcing the likes of Imagine Dragons, Fetty Wap and Jack Ü as performers, it’s certainly one of the more downright strange line-ups of the UK festival season.

Despite the mostly negative reaction to the announcement, Foals’ Yannis Philippakis said that he was excited to headline the festive: We’re absolutely buzzing to be headlining Reading and Leeds this year. It’s a dream come true,” the frontman said. “I used to watch Nirvana live at Reading ’92, on VHS, repeatedly while dying my hair blue and learning how to play guitar, badly.

“We’ve worked our way up on our own terms and to be given the chance to headline one of world’s most iconic festivals is a huge achievement for us and hopefully a sign for all bands, that, if you stick to your guns and focus on what matters, you’ll get there and smash it. Onwards and upwards friends. Long live the guitar band.”
