EVO 2016 Line Up Revealed, Tekken 7 and Pokken Tournament Make the Cut

The full line-up for the EVO 2016 fighting game tournament has been announced, with nine games in total making the cut including Tekken 7 and Pokken Tournament.

The list of games was revealed by organizer Joey “Mr. Wizard” Cuellar during a Twitch broadcast from the Red Bull eSports Studio in Santa Monica, California, with it including a selection of predicted entries and some surprising newcomers.

Here’s the list in full:

  • Street Fighter V
  • Super Smash Bros: Melee
  • Super Smash Bros for Wii U
  • Guilty Gear Xrd: Revelator
  • Mortal Kombat XL
  • Pokken Tournament
  • Killer Instinct
  • Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
  • Tekken 7: Fated Retribution

This year marks the first time Street Fighter IV will be absent since its launch, with it now being replaced by Capcom’s next entry in the series, Street Fighter V. King of Fighters is also notably absent from the line-up, and many will likely be upset that Pokken Tournament has been put in its place, a relatively unproven game. It remains to be seen whether or not Pokken Tournament can actually become a staple of EVO, though Japanese competitors will have already got a head start in training with the game, considering that it was first released in arcades in the region.

EVO 2016 will take place at the Las Vegas Convention Center on July 15-17.
