Eagles of Death Metal Want to be the First Band to Play at the Bataclan when it Re-opens

Eagles of Death Metal have been interviewed for the very first time since the terrorist attacks in Paris on November 13th, discussing their account of the evening in which 130 people tragically lost their lives.

The band were performing in the French capital’s Bataclan theatre when ISIS terrorists stormed the building, shooting and killing 89 people. The band survived the attack, and have now spoken out to Vice with further details of what took place inside the venue that evening.

The video, which you can watch below, features two separate interviews, one with the entire Eagles of Death Metal and their sound engineer, and another which focuses upon frontman Jesse Hughes and Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme, who is also a co-founder of the band. Homme was not there at the time of the shooting.

During the interview, Hughes stated how he could not wait to return to Paris and perform at the Bataclan again. “I want to be the first band to play in the Bataclan when it opens back up,” he said. “Because I was there when it went silent for a minute. Our friends went there to see rock and roll and died. I want to go back there and live.”

Hughes also spoke of the death of the band’s merchandise manager Nick Anderson, who died during the attack, but who bravely didn’t call for help “because he didn’t want others to get hurt.”

There has been a UK campaign to get the band’s cover of Duran Duran’s ‘Save a Prayer’ to the top of the charts, with this fan-created gesture having saw the track reach the top of the iTunes rock charts. Hughes stated that Duran Duran’s Simon Le Bon had donated royalties he had earned through the track to Parisian charities.
